Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Business Case Assistant, flexible working across the NWS estate.
The Business Case and Sanction team works with the programme teams within NWS to obtain approval for NWS projects and programmes via business cases from central government.
The role holder will support the work of the NWS Business Case and Sanction team, in the planning, specifying and gathering of evidence/underpinning, and will author business cases where NDA is the final approving party.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Present Business Case rationale to senior managers and programme/project governance forums, working with key stakeholders to anticipate and mitigate issues and delays whilst engaging with senior management.
- Ensures that all relevant organisational factors for change are incorporated within a comprehensive Business Case, and that there is a clear rationale for preferred option(s).
- Leads engagement with relevant stakeholders to identify, define and quantify benefits, negotiating with stakeholders to agree the key benefits.
- The role holder will support the assurance and governance processes for NWS business cases by managing and co-ordinating the channels of comments generated through reviews of the business case, particularly in NDA keyholder review, for the Business Case Managers to respond to. The role holder will support preparation of governance and assurance summaries.
- To support the Business Case Managers in the development of the Monitoring and Evaluation Forms as part of Post Investment Appraisal to report delivery against benefits contained within sanctioned business cases.
- Support the development and maintenance of the Sanction processes and procedures within the NWS Management System.
- Manage the team’s communication needs, including preparation of blogs for the corporate intranet, arranging formal meetings and managing action logs for these meetings.
- Coordinate and contribute to corporate target development as it applies to the team and reporting on progress against these targets.
- Manage the information assets held by the team and leading on any data retention or reorganisation initiatives as they arise.
- In addition, she/he will undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.
Experience Required
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are essential as the post holder will be expected to produce concise and persuasive verbal and written documents as well as engaging with individuals at all levels with credibility. It is possible that a successful candidate could have a background in a range of professional disciplines where skills are core.
- Leadership, team working. influencing and motivational skills required, together with the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Public sector experience, particularly of working within a high value programme forming part of a Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP)/Major Projects Review Group (MPRG) programme in UK government, is highly desirable.
- Experience working within or supporting business case team is desirable.
- Chartered membership status (or working towards it) in a relevant financial professional qualification.
- Better Business Cases trained desirable.
- Graduate with a good degree.
