Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team flexible working across the NWS estate, defining and developing the configuration and change processes.

The purpose of this role is to support NWS projects in successful realisation of systems and ongoing asset management through the application of good practise in technical configuration management and change control. This includes technical configuration management and change control of requirements, assumptions, documents and other technical information for the development of the UK’s Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) and other NWS projects.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop technical configuration management and change control processes and arrangements for a range of technical configuration items, throughout the entire system lifecycle, in line with NWS’s approach to systems engineering and asset management.
  • Establish and maintain technical configuration management plans for the GDF programme and other NWS projects including the development and evolution of technical configuration baselines and their variants over the system lifecycle.
  • Co-ordinate change control processes and ensure maintenance of change control records on behalf of the Delegated Design Authorities.
  • Facilitate and support technical change control boards on behalf of the Delegated Design Authorities.
  • Interface with Project Managers and Enterprise Portfolio Management Office to ensure coherence between technical / system configuration and programme / project configuration, and associated processes.
  • Identify and define use cases and user needs for relevant digital tools.
  • Line management of staff and contractor supplied staff members when required.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary reviews of technical information.
  • Provide cross-functional support to projects using in developing and applying a Systems Engineering approach, including training, and coaching in SE processes.
  • In addition, the post-holder will undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.
Experience Required

Essential

  • Degree in a science or engineering subject or other equivalent accredited learning.
  • Ability to plan and manage interactive programmes of work to ensure milestones are achieved and delivered to the required standard.
  • Experience in the configuration management and change control of technical baselines, configured items, technical and design information within safety critical and high hazard industries.
  • Proven track record of producing technical documentation within time, cost, and quality constraints and for a range of audiences.
  • Good task management skills, including line management of staff, contractors and the ability to work on parallel tasks.
  • Good facilitation, interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Experience of digital tools used in the management of technical configuration baselines (information and data)
  • Ability to communicate and influence in a way that supports adoption of new and adherence to existing processes across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to facilitate multi-disciplinary reviews of technical information.
  • Experience of working with corporate Quality Management Systems in a technical and regulated context.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the scientific basis for geological disposal of radioactive waste
  • Experience of systems engineering, requirements management and asset management
  • Experience of Building Information Modelling and Product Lifecycle Management
  • Professional registration with a relevant professional body.
