Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced E3S Cases Systems Engineering Specialist to join our team flexible working across the NWS estate.

The main purposes of this job are to:

  • Provide specific Systems Engineering and Requirements Management input to the development of the GDF Environmental, Safety, Security and Safeguards Cases.
  • Provide high quality Systems Engineering and Requirements advice to engineers, designers and other stakeholders to support the development of security cases.
  • Produce (and where applicable, verify) specialist areas of the GDF E3S Cases and methodology and guidance for the GDF E3S Cases to time, cost and quality through the relevant Technical Governance process steps.
  • For the GDF support the development of robust BAT and ALARP arguments and demonstration of Secure by Design and Safeguards by Design.
  • Effectively communicate the key findings, outputs and conclusions of Systems Engineering and the GDF E3S Case to a wide range of stakeholders (internal/ external, technical/ non-technical).
  • Act as Intelligent Customer for supply chain contractors including definition of technical specifications for work.
  • Liaise and support colleagues in the Safety Cases Team and the wider NWS organisation.
  • Support interactions with and supply information to the Regulators, NDA and NDA group companies under the direction of the E3S Cases Systems Engineering Lead.
  • Deputise for the E3S Cases Systems Engineering Lead as required.
  • If required, and as agreed with the Safety Cases Systems Engineering Lead, the job holder will also provide support to other NWS priorities (e.g. Near Surface Disposal and Repository Site activities).
Experience Required

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with people from different functions and backgrounds, to achieve results through effective team-working and collaboration.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely (including distilling complex technical information into simpler, more digestible forms) to a wide range of stakeholders (specialist and non-specialist).
  • Has a good understanding of the UK Regulatory framework and its implications for UK Licensees.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a safety or security related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in the application of Systems Engineering and Requirements Management in the development of environmental safety cases OR nuclear safety cases OR security cases OR transport safety cases.

Desirable

  • Have or be working towards holding ASEP certification with INCOSE UK.
