Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced Enterprise Inventory Lead to join the team flexible working from one of its offices across the UK.
Overall accountability for ensuring that NWS, NDA and our stakeholders have access to the authoritative data on UK Radioactive Waste, that the limitations and risks of the use of such data is clearly communicated and driving NWS wide implementation of the Technical Policy in matters related to waste data.
Accountable for delivery of all scope relating to NWS Enterprise Inventory Office, including delivery of a National exercise (UK Radioactive Waste Inventory) on behalf of Government (DESNZ) and NDA, discharging international obligations under IAEA treaties.
Responsible for maintaining formal radioactive waste inventories on behalf of all current or planned NWS disposal facilities (Inventory for Geological Disposal and Inventory for LLWR Site) and supply chain partners (Inventory for Waste Services).
- Responsible for the delivery of inventory related scope defined in the NWS Client Specification, overall quality and consistency of inventory deliverables across WM&I, maintaining and communicating a clear vision, strategy and direction for the assurance and provision of inventory information.
- Delivery of scope relating to LLWR Site License and Environmental Permit conditions, such as Safeguards and inventory related Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC).
- Responsibility for delivering the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory (UKRWI) on a rolling programme on behalf of Government (DESNZ), NDA and NWS; ensuring that programme commitments are met to time and quality and that NWS reputation with regard to its external stakeholders is protected and enhanced.
- Working with Senior NDA and Non-NDA Group counterparts to lead industry working groups, such as the National Inventory Forum, sharing Learning from Experience and improvement initiatives that benefit the wider industry
- Acting as UK representative at inventory related International Working Groups led by organisations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and OECD/NEA.
- Setting direction and providing oversight of the Enterprise Inventory Office, including coordination of matrix working across NWS directorates and with regulatory bodies for related activities.
Essential
- Degree in a science or engineering subject, or equivalent experience in role.
- Experience in a management and/or leadership role, holding accountability for implementation and delivery of assigned activities under budgetary and resource constraints, recognising and implementing prioritisation and balancing demands.
- Experience in strategic engagement and delivery, representing current positions, and recognising and actively challenging conflicting positions.
- Extensive experience in oversight, critical review and challenge of technical activities.
- Resilience and proven ability to behave professionally in challenging circumstances.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing to a good standard of English.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority, including supervision of staff.
Desirable
- Member of a relevant professional institute with an interest in working towards chartered status.
- Extensive knowledge of radioactive waste packaging processes and UK waste packaging plant, and the breadth and constraints of inventory information.
- Extensive knowledge of radioactive waste disposal practices and requirements.
- Experience in data and information management, including information quality demands for data management, and development and implementation of data tools and processes.
- Experience in supervising multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience of working in a regulated environment, particularly regulatory processes as applied to waste disposal, operational process plant and construction sites.
- Extensive knowledge of the NWS portfolio of waste management, disposal at LLWR and GDF demands, including processes for generating inventory information.
