Nuclear Waste Services has an exciting new opportunity for an IT CloudOps Technical Lead to join our IT Team!

This role handles providing the technical ability within the Azure Cloud platform function. Implementing the strategy and roadmap, contributing to the Design, Build and Run of the NWS Microsoft cloud environment by managing Cloud Services to support project demand and operational requirements from the business, including scalability and security of the solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Leadership on CloudOps design, build, and implement cloud-based applications to streamline an organisation’s technical infrastructure. This may also include rearchitect or reengineer on-premises environments for cloud migration.
  • Operational Management of the delivery, tuning, optimisation, and performance of workloads and IT services running in cloud environments (which can be multi or hybrid).
  • Lead and Manage the Implementation of CloudOps tools to automate various infrastructure management tasks, including provisioning, monitoring, and security event remediation.
  • Build a cloud development and operations team to support the NWS business.
  • Assist development \ architecture teams with assessing their application and developing a path to the Cloud.
  • Coach development teams on best practices, architecture and design for the Cloud.
  • Design, Code, and Deliver new rapid prototypes and MVP (Minimal Viable Product) cloud-based micro-services connectivity solutions from idea to production.
  • Leadership in adopting DevOps and ClickOps processes.
  • Develop and execute the NWS Cloud Strategy
  • Lead on secure by design and all solution meet the regulatory requirements for the sector
  • Provide leadership of the NWS cloud portfolio with key internal/external stakeholders
  • Be seen as the NWS cloud Intelligent Customer with excellent customer focus and the ability to articulate complex ideas simply and effectively.
  • Resolve user incidents and escalations in accordance with set SLA's.
  • Monitor the environment for alerts and rectify issues before becoming incidents.
  • Assist in the generation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Lead the evaluation of designs and solutions as part of the Design Authority Board.
  • Offer thought leadership and technical guidance to the wider IT team.
  • Communicate plans, status, and issues to higher management levels.
  • Provide general peer to peer training support to those in the department who are on career progression.
  • Develop and lead product and process improvement Proof of Concepts.
  • Lead the team to begin to leverage process automation and PowerBI.
  • Provide leadership and management for administration of PowerAutomate and PowerBI
Experience Required

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in Cloud Operations (CloudOps) or DevOps.
  • Previous experience of technical team management.
  • Previous experience of building a CloudOps team.
  • Knowledge and experience of building pipelines, git, and operating systems
  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Azure Resource Manager (ARM) or equivalent public cloud IaC (Infrastructure as Code) technology

Desirable

  • Involvement in cloud migrations
  • Experience of cloud controls and standards within a regulated industry
  • Experience with capacity forecasting and cloud cost optimisation techniques
  • Experience with Azure Defender for Cloud / Cloud Security
  • An understanding of scripting languages i.e. Python, Node.js, PowerShell scripting
  • Wide knowledge of procedures and methods relevant to the field together with a full understanding of underlying principals
