Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Mechanical Fitter to join its busy team in Cumbria.

As a Mechanical Fitter you will support Maintenance Delivery activities across the site. You will maintain and improve plant performance in line with production demands and regulatory/ statutory requirements.

Applications are invited from fully qualified individuals with a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Deliver Maintenance work activities as instructed by the Team Leader.
  • Complete job cards in accordance with site standards to ensure that good quality maintenance history is recorded.
  • Identifying and assist in delivery of plant and process improvements.
  • Ensure all Maintenance tasks are covered by an appropriate safe system of work and worked to at all time.
  • Check, fully understand and use MI’s (Maintenance Instructions) for all relevant maintenance activities highlighting any issues to the Team Leader.
  • Ensure appropriate workplace standards are maintained and the correct tools and equipment is used in the right way.
  • Actively participate in team briefs and LFE reviews taking personal action to resolve any issues or shortfalls in the workplace.
  • Comply with area standards and expectations of behaviour and performance.
  • Deliver personal targets as defined by the Maintenance Team Leader.
  • Attend all planned training arranged
  • To maintain competence and SQEP status in relation to requirements for air fed suit working
  • To maintain competence and SQEP status in relation to requirements for confined space working
  • To have a working knowledge of plant and process isolations suite of documents.
  • To be appointed as Nominated person (mechanical) to carry out nominated person duties in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • To be able to read understand follow drawings to carry out identification and isolations of plant equipment (including Red Lined drawings).
  • To carry out fault finding and proof testing on mechanical equipment                     
Experience Required

Essential

  • Must have served and successfully completed a relevant, recognised
  • Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Must have the ability to work in the active area using PVC, Respirator and be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must provide evidence of being able to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with a professional attitude, who must have commitment to achieving company values.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate key information with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of working with extract fans, compressors, pumps, valves, gearboxes and hydraulic systems

Desirable

  • Currently hold or be able to work towards nominated persons PPE&I.
  • Experience of carrying out pipe fitting when required.
  • Be able to carry out simple welding tasks
  • To hold PCN level 1 or 2 in Visual and Dye Penetrant NDT certification.
