Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Practitioner to join the EPMO team flexible working from one of its offices across the UK.

The Waste Operations Portfolio is a sub-portfolio of Nuclear Waste Services, supporting the NWS strategy by delivering to its allocated mission and strategic goals. The Waste Operations mission is to manage, operate and develop NWS Sites to maximise benefit for society.

The Waste Operations Portfolio office provides P30 support to decision makers and delivery teams within the Portfolio.

A PMO Practitioner provides specialist, hands-on support and expertise, to the PPM community and PMO Managers.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assist with establishing and running temporary, or permanent PMOs.
  • Develop and implement the PMO Charter, and Service Level agreements, on behalf of the PMO Manager. Monitor performance of PMO service level agreements.
  • Assist the Portfolio Office leads with monitoring portfolio level documentation. Maintain registers, including dependencies, risks, assurance schedules, improvement actions, decision logs.
  • Apply relevant P3M policies, standards and methods.
  • Implement guidelines, procedures and templates.
  • Provide P3M-related support to the P3M community.
  • Support and assist with P3M assurance reviews as required.
  • Support Programme and Project Managers with the development and maintenance of business cases, costs, plans and baselines.
  • Support decision makers by providing P3M data and dashboards, including providing clear and correct information to Programme and Portfolio Boards. Assist with development of, and deploy, standard Terms of Reference for Governance forums.
  • Assist Programme and Project Managers with managing issues, risks and change controls.
  • Maintain Baselines and P3O performance data including milestones and KPIs.
  • Implement agreed regular progress-reporting mechanisms for all projects, monitoring the routine progress of Programmes and Projects, and assisting with the preparation of progress reports.
  • Establish and maintain an information management system and managing both electronic and hard-copy configuration libraries.
  • Deputise for PMO managers when required.
  • Support Portfolio and PMO communications and stakeholder engagements.
Experience Required

Essential skills:

  • Ability to lead by example and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide solutions, solve problems and make key decisions in a dynamic environment.

Desirable skills:

  • Familiarity with how projects and programmes are delivered in the nuclear sector.
  • Accreditation with a professional body and commitment to professional development.
  • APM or P30 accredited qualification.
  • Experience of working in a PMO environment.
