Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Programme Manager to lead our Repository Capping / Vaults delivery team on-site at the LLWR repository in Cumbria.

As Programme Manager, you would be responsible for leading the delivery team including forming and managing collaborative relationships with our supply chain delivery partners. The role involves overall accountability for delivering the design and construction works to high levels of quality to meet regulatory requirements. You will line manage a team of project delivery / construction professionals and oversee the matrixed functional resources that support delivery, such as Commercial / Engineering / Quality. 

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Leading and motivating the Project delivery team to achieve the desired outputs and results.
  • Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of Projects ensuring that appropriate and robust controls are in place whilst talking into account safety and the environment.
  • Establishing and maintaining project governance arrangements, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Applying appropriate lifecycles, processes, methods, techniques and tools whilst tailoring them to the specific needs of specific Projects / Tasks.
  • Ensuring that quality activities relating to Projects / Tasks are planned and performed correctly and are within tolerance defined by the Plan.
  • Planning Projects / Tasks in sufficient detail to ensure integration of all activities, identification of dependencies, and understanding of critical paths and key milestones.
  • Managing reviews at appropriate points throughout the delivery lifecycle which will inform governance decisions by providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency and continuing relevance.
  • Identifying stakeholder expectations and managing them, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests, establishing effective engaging relationships with them.
  • Actively identifying / managing threats and opportunities including instigating mitigation actions, identifying risk responses / contingency plans and managing them to a conclusion.
Experience Required
  • Experience (typically around 10 years) of leading and delivering multi £m projects, in technical and regulated environments, and proven track record of managing and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders in such environments.
  • Experience leading, motivating and managing multi-disciplinary teams, including internal and external resources, to drive integration, teamwork and problem solving while holding teams accountable for performance.
  • Demonstrable experience of successful delivery of projects to quality, time and budget.
  • Experienced and comfortable with change with the ability to work with an organisation that is undergoing significant transformation and can demonstrate a proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience of establishing strong positive relationships with the supply chain, including procurement and contract management of complex technical contracts.
  • Visible leadership – able to lead through engaging, motivating, coaching and empowering others.
  • Collaboration – able to establish and develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people together to benefit projects or programme.
