Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Senior Business Improvements Practitioner to join our busy team flexible working across the NWS Estate.
The Business Improvement Capability supports Nuclear Waste Services to “make nuclear waste safer, sooner” by embedding and sustaining a Business Improvements culture, where business areas are self-sustaining and able to make informed decisions, based upon accurate data.

The role of Senior Business Improvements Practitioner is to work collaboratively with the business to build self-sustaining improvement capability. Recognised as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in business improvement and performance measures. The Senior Business Improvements Practitioner will lead on strategic / complex improvement activities and may be embedded into a business area for a period of time to support large scale improvements.
The Senior Business Improvements Practitioner is a member of the Business Improvement Capability Lead Team and will report directly to the Head of Business Improvement Capability.
- Act as an internal, cross-functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) in business improvements and performance measures
- Collaborate with the business to raise awareness of business Improvement tools and techniques, supporting the development of self-sustaining improvement capability though delivery of training, coaching and mentoring
- Support development and implementation of the Business Improvement Capability strategy and framework
- Support the identification and prioritisation of improvement activities
- Lead and facilitate strategic / complex improvement activities, identifying performance gaps and sustainable counter measures
- Engage with stakeholders to establish business improvement maturity baseline
- Support the development, implementation and sustainment of new tools and techniques to improve performance data
- Identify and escalate performance measure trends appropriately
The role holder should have:
- A high level understanding the Lean Principles

- Proven ability to demonstrate and influence the need for change with senior leaders
- Good IT proficiency, including use of Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
- Excellent data and information analysis skills

- Proven ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organisation
- Excellent organisation and planning skills
Essential:
- Recognised business improvement and performance measures Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Demonstrable evidence of personal commitment to identifying performance gaps and implementing improvements
- Experience in designing, developing and deploying lean frameworks, projects and programmes
- Certified Lean Competency (LCS) Trainer with significant of building capability though delivery of training, coaching and mentoring
- Significant experience of leading and facilitating large-scale / strategic improvements activities with sustained benefits
- Advanced user of Performance Measurement tools such as Power BI
- Certified at Level 2a/b of the Lean Competency System (LCS)
- Certified Facilitator
- The flexibility to travel in line with business needs
Desirable:
- Certified at Level 3 of the Lean Competency System (LCS)
- Certified Manging Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner
- Certified Change Management Practitioner
- Certified Project Manager (Level D)
- Member of relevant Professional Body
