Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Senior Finance Business Partner to join its busy team in either Harwell, Oxfordshire or Calderbridge, Cumbria.
This is a great opportunity to create and lead a new high performing Business Partnering capability within Nuclear Waste Services (“NWS”).
This is a senior high-profile role reporting into the NWS Head of Commercial Finance. The role will build strong relationships to support key stakeholders including members of the Executive team, peers within the Senior Finance team and colleagues across NWS.
The role holder is responsible for business partnering within nominated Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) Lines of Business. As a Finance leader they are responsible for the development of credible and compelling business performance narratives; 3-year operating plans and Spending Review bids; evidenced-based decision making; as for providing assurance of value of work done assessments and rolling forecasts.
- Business engagement lead for all finance matters for nominated Line(s) of Business.
- Develop a credible and compelling business performance narrative including insightful variance analysis and the identification of risk, opportunity and efficiency saving impacts. Use this insight to inform and provide assurance of reported results, and to foster a no surprises culture.
- Optimise the use of available finance and reporting tools to capture performance data efficiently and effectively, provide insights into business performance, and provide timely, targeted, decision relevant information.
- Assure value of work done assessments and rolling forecasts, evolving towards an embedded partnering approach with joint ownership and accountability.
- Financial lead for the development of 3-year operating plans and Spending Review bids, including the development of alternative spend scenarios.
- Establish spending priorities and respond proactively and robustly to emerging funding challenges and opportunities. Lead the portfolio management process to ensure the optimal use of available funding.
- Support evidenced-based decision making by working closely with the business to own and develop business case financials, monitor and track the delivery of benefits. Undertake due diligence assessments of supply chain partners.
- Ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for chargeable work aligned to the commercial operating model, including the allocation of overheads and manpower costs as appropriate.
- Support the development of a Lifetime Plan and inputs to the NDA’s nuclear provision.
- Work with colleagues across NWS and NDA to share best practice.
- Deputise for the Head of Commercial Finance as required.
- Leading a business partnering team drawing on a resource pool, with no line management responsibilities.
- Nuclear Waste Services is a c£250m / 1000 FTE organisation but is expected to grow substantially in the Medium / Long term as the mission progresses. Within Major Capital Projects, the Geological Disposal Facility alone is a £20-£53 billion 100-plus year project which will be one of the biggest infrastructure and environmental protection programmes in the UK.
- This opportunity is to lead finance business partnering support to the Integrated Waste Management Programme, Waste Management Services and Waste Operations which is a c£80m portfolio.
- Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / CIPFA or equivalent) with substantial post qualification experience.
- Experience gained in similar senior business partnering roles helping the business understand and improve their performance, with the resilience needed to challenge the status quo.
- Partnership working in cross functional teams, the ability to think strategically, a proven ability to determine business needs and develop insightful and targeted reports using specialist financial reporting tools.
- Highly ICT literate with extensive knowledge of finance systems, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word and advanced Excel. An awareness of Government Accounting and Managing Public Money beneficial.
- Public Sector and Nuclear / Infrastructure experience would be advantageous.
