Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced Senior Inventory Manager to join the UK Radioactive Waste team flexible working from one of its offices across the UK.

Responsible for delivery of scope relating to the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory within the Enterprise Inventory Office, discharging international obligations under IAEA treaties.

Working closely with those responsible for maintaining formal radioactive waste inventories on behalf of all current or planned NWS disposal facilities (Inventory for Geological Disposal and Inventory for LLWR Site) and supply chain partners (Inventory for Waste Services).

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supporting delivery of UKRWI related scope defined in the NWS Client Specification.
  • Delivery of the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory (UKRWI) on a rolling programme on behalf of Government (DESNZ), NDA and NWS; ensuring that programme commitments are met to time and quality and that NWS reputation with regard to its external stakeholders is protected and enhanced.
  • Accountable for the overall quality, consistency and assurance arrangements of UKRWI products and deliverables, including those published on the UKRWI and NWS website.
  • Managing multi-year contracts with supply chain partners for delivery of the UKRWI exercise and UKRWI website, providing appropriate level of oversight and challenge.
  • Supporting multi-year contracts with supply chain for Enterprise Inventory Office applications, such as DiQuest and other inventory tools forming part of the broader toolkit
  • Working with NDA and Non-NDA Group counterparts to lead industry working groups, such as the National Inventory Forum, sharing Learning from Experience and improvement initiatives that benefit the wider industry
  • Management and ownership of inventory related Freedom of Information (FOI) and UKRWI website requests on behalf of the Enterprise Inventory Office
  • Supporting integration of inventory information with the development of GDF design and safety cases through the Inventory for Geological Disposal (IGD).
Experience Required

Essential

  • Degree in a science or engineering subject, or equivalent experience in role.
  • Experience in a management and/or leadership role, holding accountability for implementation and delivery of assigned activities under budgetary and resource constraints, recognising and implementing prioritisation and balancing demands.
  • Experience in strategic engagement and delivery, representing current positions, and recognising and actively challenging conflicting positions.
  • Experience in oversight, critical review and challenge of technical activities.
  • Resilience and proven ability to behave professionally in challenging circumstances.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing to a good standard of English.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority, including supervision of staff.


Desirable

  • Member of a relevant professional institute with an interest in working towards chartered status.
  • Extensive knowledge of radioactive waste packaging processes and UK waste packaging plant, and the breadth and constraints of inventory information.
  • Extensive knowledge of radioactive waste disposal practices and requirements.
  • Experience in data and information management, including information quality demands for data management, and development and implementation of data tools and processes.
  • Experience in supervising multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment, particularly regulatory processes as applied to waste disposal, operational process plant and construction sites.
  • Extensive knowledge of the NWS portfolio of waste management, disposal at LLWR and GDF demands, including processes for generating inventory information.
