Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for two experienced Business Improvement Practitioner to join our team flexible working across the NWS estate.
The Business Improvement Capability supports Nuclear Waste Services to “make nuclear waste safer, sooner” by embedding and sustaining a Business Improvements culture, where business areas are self-sustaining and able to make informed decisions, based upon accurate data.
This means:

The role of Business Improvement Practitioner is to work collaboratively with the business to build self-sustaining improvement capability. Recognised as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Business Improvement. The individual will lead and facilitate delivery of complex improvement Activities.
- Act as an internal, cross-functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Business Improvements
- Collaborate with the business to raise awareness of Business Improvement tools and techniques, supporting the development of self-sustaining improvement capability though delivery of training, coaching and mentoring
- Engage with stakeholders to establish Business Improvement maturity baseline
- Support the identification and prioritisation of improvement activities
- Lead and facilitate complex improvement activities, identifying performance gaps and sustainable counter measures
Additional Responsibilities
- Represent the team at relevant internal and external forums and meetings
- Deputise for the Business Improvement Lead as appropriate to ensure the Business Improvement Team are appropriately represented

- Conduct benchmarking to identify industry best practice, seeks and shares and implements Learning from Experience (LFE) across the business to support continuous improvement
- A high level understanding the Lean Principles
- A questioning attitude with a proven ability to problem solve
- A strong desire to drive improvements within their teams / departments
- Proven ability to demonstrate the influence the need for change
- Good IT proficiency, including use of Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organisation
- Excellent organisation and planning skills
Essential:
- Demonstrable evidence of personal commitment to identifying performance gaps and implementing improvements
- Significant experience of leading and facilitating improvements activities
- Experience in supporting and delivering Business Improvement Training
- Confidence to provide 1-1 coaching and mentoring of Business Improvement Tools and Techniques
- Certified at Level 1b of the Lean Competency System (LCS)
- Certified Lean Competency (LCS) Trainer
- Certified Facilitator
- The flexibility to travel in line with business needs
Desirable:
- Certified at Level 1c of the Lean Competency System (LCS)
- Certified Project Manager (Level D)
- Certified Change Management Practitioner
- Certified Manging Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner
- Member of relevant Professional Body
