Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an Environmental Assessment Technical Editor to join its busy team, flexible working across the NWS Estate.
As part of this role, you will act as the responsible person to ensure the accuracy, clarity and consistency of technical content related to environmental and sustainability assessment. To refine and enhance technical content related to environmental and sustainability assessment.
This job plays a critical role in reviewing and refining complex environmental information, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and professionalism. This ensures that environmental documents are clear, robust and concise, and accessible to diverse audiences contributing to effective communication and good decision making.
- Review and Edit: Thoroughly review and edit technical documents including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s), Sustainability Reports and other related materials. Ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency of content, improving readability and usability for various stakeholders.
- Compliance with Standards and Guidelines: Ensure that all technical documentation adheres to relevant standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements pertaining to environmental assessments and sustainability practices. Verify that the content aligns with industry best practices and incorporates the latest research and development.
Technical Accuracy Verification: Collaborate with subject matter experts and technical teams to verify the technical accuracy of content. Identify potential gaps, inconsistencies, inaccuracies or limitations and work with the team to address them appropriately. - Content Structure: Optimise the organisation and structure of technical content to enhance its flow and accessibility. Ensure that information is logically presented, key points are highlighted, and complex concepts are effectively communicated to diverse audiences.
- Grammar, Style and Formatting: Edit and proofread technical content for grammar, punctuation, syntax and style consistency. Ensure adherence to NWS’s data management guidelines and maintain a high standard of quality in all written materials.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams within NWS and in the supply chain to include: technical, environmental scientists, site evaluation, major permissions, project managers, quality and assurance, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify technical details. Communicate editing suggestions and provide constructive feedback.
- Stay Updated on Environmental and Sustainability Practices: Stay abreast of current trends, research, and developments in environmental impact assessment and sustainability practices. Continuously enhance your knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks, and emerging industry standards.
- Management of Workload: Manage all incoming work demand in a significant delivery area and ensure delivery to time cost and quality.
- Line Management: Ensure effective line management of up to 5 NWS staff, promoting a high performing team ethos. Ensure effective technical development of staff in core and specialist roles.
- Contract Management: Develop and manage supply chain commercial arrangements to include peer review, ensuring quality and value for money.
Audit and Oversight: Own audit, oversight, modernisation programmes and encourage learning from experience.
Essential
- Batchelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, technical writing, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Technical Editor, preferably within the environmental or sustainability field.
- Excellent editing, proofreading, and writing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to comprehend complex technical information and effectively communicate it to a diverse range of audiences.
- Proficiency in using editing software or tools and MS Office Suite.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable
- Strong knowledge of environmental impact assessment processes and sustainability principles.
- Experience of nuclear energy or waste programmes
