Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Head of Business Partnering to join its busy team. If based nationwide, there will be ocassional travel to Harwell, Oxfordshire in the early stages.

This is a great opportunity to set the vision for and create and lead a new high performing Business Partnering / Commercial Finance function.

This is a senior high-profile role reporting into the Nuclear Waste Services (“NWS”) Finance Director.  The role will build strong relationships to support key stakeholders including the Board, Executive team, peers within the Senior Management team and colleagues across the NDA.

The role holder and team will work closely with the lines of business.  They will use their detailed understanding of the business, strategy and finances to help the business understand their finances, accurately forecast future spend, provide commercial insight / challenge and identify / deliver material VfM savings to further the NWS mission.

You will initially lead a team of six Business Partners (though this will grow as the business expands).

You will also take personal accountability as Finance lead on the largest business cases (including the Geological Disposal Facility “GDF” programme – a £20-53bn 100-year programme) and represent Finance on key steering groups (including the GDF Senior Leadership Team).

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Create the vision for a high performing, best-in-class Finance Business Partner team for NWS and lead the journey to get there e.g. the role of a BP, BP Competency Framework,  standards, templates etc
  • Help the business understand and own their financial performance, rolling forecast and associated risks / opportunities and efficiency tracking
  • Support the business making effective Business Cases (setting the financial standards and rolling business cases out to smaller investments) including putting in place appropriate measures to ensure that benefits are delivered and tracked
  • Personally lead on the largest business cases (e.g. GDF Business Cases) and represent Finance at key meetings (e.g. as part of the GDF Senior Leadership Team). 
  • Build strong relationships with each of the NWS Lines of Business and enabling functions
  • Work with the Strategy and Business Development teams to develop new investment and growth opportunities from initial idea through business case to successful implementation
  • Work as a key member of the NWS senior leadership team to help the business achieve its strategic objectives
  • Support the Finance Director / CFO in setting and delivering the overall Finance transformation
  • Work with colleagues across the other SLC and the NDA to share best practice
  • Deputise for the Finance Director as required
Experience Required

Essential

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / CIPFA or equivalent) with substantial post qualification experience
  • You will have previous experience leading a large Business Partnering / Commercial Finance team in large complex organisations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to present complex financial information simply
  • Able to quickly build credibility and rapport with and influence key stakeholders including the Board, Executive team members and senior non-finance managers around the organisation
  • Exceptional business acumen and resilience to challenge the status quo

Desirable

  • Experience setting up a new or transforming an existing Business Partnering / Commercial Finance team
  • Large scale infrastructure experience is highly preferred
  • Public Sector and Nuclear experience would be advantageous
