Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Lead Digital Design Manager to join its busy team, flexible working across the NWS estate.
The Lead Digital Design Manager is a critical role to modernise and standardise NWS’s approach to the digital representation and realisation of its technical products (eg. repositories, disposal facilities and waste packages) over their respective lifecycles.
The job holder will lead, co-ordinate, support and integrate the development of digital design and digital twin capabilities based on tools, methodologies and technologies including Computer Aided Design (CAD), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Model Based Engineering (MBE), digital safety cases, and an array of specialist scientific and engineering models and analytical tools.
The job holder will also support NWS’s Delegated Design Authorities (DDAs) including the Digital Design Authority, to ensure digital design and digital twin solutions are, IT architecturally compliant, fit for purpose and capable of maintaining design intent and configuration control over the lifecycles of relevant technical products (including waste packages and waste disposal infrastructure).
In an ever-evolving digital world, the job holder will be expected to keep pace with standards and relevant good practise, research and development and emerging technology solutions within academia and industry, both nationally and internationally. As such they will be NWS’s lead expert in digital engineering as it applies to our technical products and services, advising and influencing senior stakeholders within NWS and across the NDA Group.
- Create, co-ordinate and integrate the development of digital design and digital twin capabilities including elicitation and management of technical needs and requirements on behalf of projects and functions.
- Act as Intelligent Customer, working with relevant discipline and subject matter experts, to manage our supply chain and ensure the integration, NWS architectural compliance, configuration, and coordination of our technical requirements in the development and supply of digital design solutions and services.
- Be a nominated Information Asset Manager and Data Steward to maintain control of relevant technical Information, Data & Knowledge (IDK) within the enterprise platforms and standards, over the product lifecycle, including expressing requirements for very long-term retention.
- Manage integration of CAD and BIM capabilities, to achieve compliance with ISO 19650, UK Government policy and NDA strategy in the delivery of NWS projects and operations.
- Support projects in planning, specifying, testing, accepting, and introducing digital design solutions – with respect to the needs and requirements of the technical functions within NWS.
- Manage integration of scientific and engineering data and information flows, and the interoperability of technical (scientific and engineering) digital tools.
- Work collaboratively across NWS Directorates, functions, projects and supply chain to ensure alignment of technical digital tools and outputs to enterprise architectures, platforms and governance.
- Enable innovation and adoption of relevant good practice, including representation and outreach to NDA Group, regulators, academia and industry bodies, professional institutions, other Waste Management Organisations (WMOs) and supply chain.
- Undertake relevant change management initiatives including the design and delivery of training and awareness campaigns, and the provision of internal consultancy and advice.
Essential
- Chartered Engineer with a relevant professional institution or level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstration of equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Significant experience of developing digital design and digital twin capabilities for technical and engineering projects based on a variety of tools, methodologies and technologies including CAD and BIM.
- Significant experience in managing and overseeing supply chain in developing digital design solutions and delivering digital design products and services.
- Experience of managing and influencing digital transformation of technical and engineering work, including integrating and coordinating related supply chain and commercial functions.
- Experience of working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to elicit and manage needs and requirements for technical digital tools, including requirements for integration and interoperability.
- Knowledge and understanding of engineering, manufacture, and construction processes across the lifecycle stages from initial concept through implementation, operation, and decommissioning; and of relevant industry standards, including ISO19650 (Building Information Modelling), ISO55000 (Asset Management) and ISO15288 (Systems Lifecycle Processes).
- Knowledge and understanding of systems engineering approaches and asset
- management methodologies and the contribution of IDKM within these.
- Communicating, influencing and change management skills necessary to develop and roll-out new techniques and approaches, advise and influence senior stakeholders and design relevant training and coaching.
- Experience of managing a team of technical staff.
Desirable
- Experience of developing digital design and digital twin capabilities for technical and engineering projects involving PLM, MBSE, MBE, digital safety cases and specialist scientific and engineering models and analytical tools.
- Experience of managing data integration and developing requirements for Data Environments.
- Experience of applying Systems Engineering approaches and Asset Management methodologies within the context of major infrastructure projects.
- Experience within nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries.
