Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a new high performing Risk & Issues Analyst to join its team based in Oxfordshire

As part of this role, you will support the GDF Risk & Issues Manager working with Assurance and Risk roles within Business Services, including close liaison, interaction and understanding to support NWS strategy, Programme, projects and functions in NWS, NDA, Government departments, Regulators, Contractors and Waste Producers as required.

This role will play a key role in supporting the GDF Risk & Issues Manager within the GDF programme to ensure that Risks, Issues and Opportunities (RIO) management is used as effectively as possible to support business decisions.  The role will play a part in ensuring the GDF programme effectively manages the RIO elements of the programme and that processes comply with NWS and NDA standards.

The GDF Risk & Issues Analyst will work to support GDF Programme and Project managers to ensure that all the elements of RIO are identified, understood, evaluated and managed.  The role will produce and administer GDF programme RIO reports to the internal GDF governance boards and to external GDF boards as directed by the GDF Risk & Issues Manager. The role will also support the production of enterprise risk reports.

The role is expected to have strong communication and interpersonal skills to enable them to successfully influence and respectfully challenge colleagues in relation to upholding RIO management standards.

Experience Required

This role sits within the NWS EPMO. The GDF Risk & Issues Analyst will support the GDF Programme to identify and manage all aspects of RIO to support the delivery of business objectives. The GDF Risk & Issues Analyst may also be required to provide similar support to other programmes within NWS as required.

  • Upkeep of the GDF RIO registers within company toolsets.
  • Ensuring RIO standards are maintained, tracking progress and driving improvements.
  • Manage the administrative support of the RIO registers and work with the programme and project managers to ensure information correctly recorded in company registers.
  • Development and ongoing support in project and programme reporting including effective communication.
  • Produce GDF programme reports, including monthly risk reports.
  • Planning and facilitating RIO working sessions and follow ups in accordance with agreed methodologies.
  • Advising on contingency development and ongoing contingency management.
  • The GDF Risk & Issues Analyst will work closely with colleagues in risk management to ensure a consistent approach to risk management and that risk management reporting is maintained across the company.

Strategy, policy and processes

  • Risk mgmt within the company is more advanced than the other elements of RIO. A key aspect of the role will be to contribute to the development of processes & procedures for issues & opportunities with the GDF programme
  • Define, develop & maintain the RIO management processes to support effective management across the GDF programme including the definition of quality standards
  • Review & update RIO management processes, procedures and documentation on a regular basis to ensure continuous improvement
  • Supporting the Business Services Risk Manager to define, develop & maintain the NWS risk policies for risk mgmt & risk analysis & its application to the GDF Programme

Quality & Reporting

  • Produce GDF Programme RIO reporting to stakeholders including CEO, Executive, NWS Board, NDA & BEIS, providing best in class reports
  • Adhere to best quality & accuracy standards for the GDF Programme RIO registers, ensure they are an accurate source of trusted data by working with others to ensure that RIO registers are maintained, up to date & comply with quality standards, by providing challenge & support
  • Implement, monitor & assure the consistent use of RIO management practices across the GDF programme
  • Effectively implement RIO reporting processes & associated guidelines including communication to the business
  • Analysis of RIO elements to provide insight that will help to enhance programme and project delivery
  • Develop effective working relationships with project/work package managers to enhance NWS’s reputation & influence delivery, ensuring it is aligned with Government, NDA, regulators, Waste producers & other departments 
     
Qualifications Needed
  • Experience of RIO mgmt on complex high profile, large infrastructure programmes in a regulatory environment
  • Proven experience of working in a rigorous programme controls environment
  • Project Management qualification (PMI, APMP, MSP, ITIL, Prince2, P30, MoR) or experience
  • Risk Management qualification (IRM, APM, MoR)
  • Significant experience in the development and implementation of new risk management policies, processes and solutions, including development of key performance indicators, limits systems and reporting requirements
  • Significant evidence of working effectively with a range of stakeholders, including proven representational/ambassadorial ability, particularly in the context of engaging Government, public and private sectors and local communities
  • Skills for RIO identification and assessment workshops and working sessions
  • Degree in a relevant subject
  • Experience of using one or more risk analytical tools (such as @Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), Safran, &/or Active Risk Manager (ARM) to carry out cost & schedule Risk Analysis
