As part of this role you will support the GDF programme with design, site evaluation and characterisation and disposability assessment (providing advice to waste producers).

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Developing sections of the Security Case and associated documentation, Disposability Assessments, and Security Case methodology and guidance in compliance with due process, seeking guidance where necessary.
  • Acting as verifier when appointed by the Security and Safeguards Lead.
  • Reviewing interfacing sections of the Security Case and key supporting documentation.
  • Acting as an Independent Peer Reviewer of the Security Case and other associated assessments.
  • Supporting Site Evaluation and Characterisation from a Security perspective.
  • Developing the programme for this allocated work.
  • Managing technical work provided by the supply chain and act as the Intelligent Customer (within limits of knowledge and experience). From the IC review, provide recommendations to the Security and Safeguards Lead for the improvement of the that work.
  • Identifying information or research needs to fill gaps in required evidence.
  • Assisting the Security and Safeguards Lead in drafting associated specifications and quality plans.
  • Assisting the Security and Safeguards Lead in interactions with NDA and NDA group companies.
  • Assisting the Security and Safeguards Lead in responding to ONR feedback.
  • Contribute to development of the NWS Security Case capability and ways of working.
  • Develop their own skills/ experience via Continued Professional Development (CPD) (either as part of a professional institute or independently).
  • Contribute to the training and development of team members, including maintenance of SQEP capability, resilience, and succession planning.
  • Liaise on a regular basis with the NWS Security and Resilience Team and Cyber Security Team.
  • Interface effectively with other members of the Safety Cases team and other GDF Technical teams (e.g. design authority, engineering, waste management, requirements, research, site characterisation).
  • Deal responsively, but also proactively, with a range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Nuclear Safety and Environmental Committee (NSEC), Independent Oversight/ Independent Assessment (IO/IA)).
  • Contribute to regulatory interactions.
  • Represent the GDF Programme and NWS at national and international groups and events.
  • Work collaboratively with other NWS staff and suppliers to ensure good value for money.
Experience Required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with people from different functions and backgrounds, to achieve results through effective team-working and collaboration.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely (including distilling complex technical information into simpler, more digestible forms) to a wide range of stakeholders (specialist and non-specialist).
  • Understands the UK security regulatory framework and the application of relevant legislation, guidance and relevant good practice within the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industry.
  • Understands security considerations for application to a Security Case with reference to current regulatory expectations, industry good practice and requirements.
  • Has a thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory framework and its implications for UK Licensees.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a security related discipline OR a minimum of 5 years demonstrable employment history in Nuclear Security.
    Desirable
  • Experienced Security Case author and verifier, within nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
