We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior CE&I Design Engineer to join our team flexible working from our office in Cumbria.
As part of this role, you will support commissioning engineering activities along with leading delivery of CE&I engineering work (specification, calculation, analysis, design, verification or assessment) for the Repository Infrastructure Programme (RIP) on behalf of the Programme Manager and the Head of Engineering.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Act as CE&I lead for the Repository Infrastructure Programme
- Day-to-day management of all aspects of CE&I disciplined design work, production, selection, checking, development and delivery of optimised fit for purpose engineering and design solutions balancing aspects of safety and environmental performance, operational effectiveness and constructability.
- Provide support to the CE&I Responsible Engineer and LLWR Design Authority as required. Providing the specification of discipline engineering design requirements; ensuring clarity and accuracy of functional and technical specifications and scopes of work provided to supply chain organisations.
- Serve as the Project Responsible Engineer, having formal delegated authority as Design Authority for infrastructure projects and tasks.
- Generating, contributing, and managing the generation of design deliverables including specifications, calculations, technical reports and drawings etc.
- Ensure that all CE&I engineering related contractors are suitability qualified and experienced(SQEP) in producing engineering deliverables.
- Ownership of project-related CE&I engineering assurance activities
- Inputting to and reviewing work packages, tender selection, and tender submissions for procurement of discipline related engineering services.
- Identification and management of design, engineering and technical risks that affect delivery of tasks and projects.
- Management of discipline related drawings and drawing quality; supporting the development and maintenance of configuration baselines and design bases within RIP
- Carrying out plant walkdowns as required.
- Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the Engineering Design Manual and supporting management system documents.
- Identifying appropriate engineering standards and practices to be used for the delivery of engineering work.
- Maintaining technical competence and currency with respect to modern standards and methodologies relevant to the discipline.
- Participation in or facilitation of engineering study meetings, design reviews, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), Hazards in Construction (HAZCON), Design Authority Technical Reviews, Document Review Committees, as required.
- Act as Design Review Chair as required
- Attend team meetings and provide regular updates on work delivered/supported to the Project Engineering Manager, and weekly updates at Programme schedule/programme reviews.
Experience Required
Essential
- Engineering graduate (min 2:2) from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline or equivalent appropriate professional qualification.
- Relevant experience serving in an engineering or design capacity with responsibility for the production, checking and approval of design and engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Working knowledge of the Design Authority and Intelligent Customer concept and the role of the CE&I Project RE in executing this accountability.
- Accredited by an appropriate professional institution (i.e., Chartered Engineer) or capable of achieving Chartership and working toward that objective.
- Detailed knowledge of industry consensus standards, processes, procedures and methods relevant to the civil engineering areas with a full understanding of underlying principles.
Desirable
- Experience and training in the commissioning of systems and equipment and all safety and plant isolation aspects of commissioning.
- Experience in working with supply chain contractors.
- SC Clearance.
- Experience in and knowledge of Building Information Modelling.
