  • Developing System Requirements for Disposal Systems, in accordance with relevant procedures, and maintaining traceability to Sponsor’s Requirements
  • Developing Verification & Validation plans and associated Information Requirements for characterisation and research activities
  • Developing, co-ordinating and controlling Concept of Operations and Lifecycle Concepts in close liaison with relevant stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Developing and controlling architectures and interfaces that support integration and assessment of disposal system requirements and constraints
  • Developing and controlling the use of system models, using appropriate methods, to support system definition, analysis and cross-functional communication
  • Support the development of Systems Engineering capability across NWS, including the development of procedures, tools and staff skills

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage team of requirements management specialists (including staff and task-based resources)
  • Performance Management, including measurement and improvement of self and team, goal and priority setting
  • Co-ordinate development plans for individuals and team
  • Absence and Welfare Management
  • Budget and Procurement Management
  • Risk Management
  • May receive Design Authority delegations for control of system requirements and disposal system configuration
Experience Required

Essential

  • Several years’ experience of systems engineering and requirements management in complex projects and programmes (ideally nuclear or infrastructure sectors)
  • Experience of developing MBSE models and of applying MBSE to engineering projects
  • Experience of developing and managing technical configuration baselines in engineering projects
  • Communication, influencing and change management skills necessary to develop and roll-out new techniques and approaches
  • Experience of working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop lifecycle concepts, elicit requirements and develop system architectures
  • Experience of managing a team of technical staff, including in the development of engineered systems

Desirable

  • Understanding of the iterative process of disposal system development
  • Knowledge of the disposal system safety case and the scientific basis for disposal of radioactive waste
  • Experience of a range of overseas radioactive waste management programmes and knowledge of UK radioactive wastes
  • Experience of regulatory requirements regarding higher activity waste management, including intelligent customer and competency management
  • Leadership and influencing skills required, together with strong interpersonal and communication skills, resilience, and proven ability to behave professionally in challenging circumstances
