Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer (Repository) to join our team flexible working with our team at Pelham House in Cumbria.

In this role you will lead, facilitate and enable NWS projects, programmes and operations in the successful realisation of waste management and disposal solutions through the application of systems engineering.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead and co-ordinate requirements management activities for projects on the Low Level Waste Repository site, including requirements definition, verification and validation.
  • Facilitate inter-disciplinary working and the application of Systems Engineering processes across NWS projects and programmes, with a particular focus on the Low Level Waste Repository site.
  • Support relevant Delegated Design Authorities in maintaining control of configuration and design intent, including requirements and other configuration items.
  • Support the development of Systems Engineering capability within NWS including development of constituent capability elements: people, process and tools.
  • With a matrix working context, contribute resource and expertise to support the full range of Systems Engineering & Requirements activities, including:
  • Developing System Requirements for Disposal Systems, in accordance with relevant procedures, and maintaining traceability to Sponsor’s Requirements
  • Developing Verification & Validation plans and associated Information Requirements for characterisation and research activities
  • Developing, co-ordinating and controlling Concept of Operations and Lifecycle Concepts in close liaison with relevant stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Developing and controlling architectures and interfaces that support integration and assessment of disposal system requirements and constraints
  • Developing and inputting to system models, using appropriate methods, to support system definition, analysis and cross-functional communication
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage staff and Agency Supply Worker resources in delivery of Project Systems Engineering
  • Performance Management, including measurement and improvement of self and team, goal and priority setting
  • Co-ordinate development plans for individuals and team

  • May receive Design Authority delegations for control of system requirements and disposal system configuration
Experience Required

Essential

  • Level 6 qualification in a relevant technical discipline, or demonstration of equivalent accredited learning
  • Experience of systems engineering and/or requirements management in support of technical projects and operations
  • Experience in through-life management of facilities and assets
  • Experience of leading technical teams and facilitating interdisciplinary working
  • Communication, influencing and change management skills necessary to develop and roll-out new techniques and approaches

Desirable

  • Experience of management and disposal of radioactive waste, or other high-hazard and regulated industries
  • Leadership and influencing skills required, together with strong interpersonal and communication skills, resilience, and proven ability to behave professionally in challenging circumstances
  • Registration (or working towards registration) with a relevant professional body
