The solution architect will work within Digital Strategy & Architecture team to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements and solutions. They will validate business requirements as presented and ensure that resulting systems and architectures support business, regulatory and technical requirements. The role holder will have the ability to bring to work with a wide range of departments across the business to create solutions to business need, and with the technology supply chain and internal technical teams to ensure effective delivery.

In addition to the technical aspects of this role, this position will also include stakeholder meetings with both internal and external service providers. It is expected that role will encompass the initial design setup and deployment of new solutions followed by the transition to live services with members of the operational support team.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role holder will work within an existing team of digital and data professionals, together with a developing supplier ecosystem.

  • Provide support and guidance for emerging projects, taking responsibility for overall system architecture
  • Work with business analyst and/or elicit business requirements to ensure the technical solution meets the business need and can be delivered on the chosen architecture
  • Provide guidance on the selection of IT solutions (software and hardware) for projects, being able to evaluate the potential impacts on the business such as license costs, phasing out of legacy systems, training etc.
  • Solution Design and Quality Assurance
  • Production of high-quality technical documentation covering the setup and implementation of design patterns
  • Contribute to the development of architecture standards, best practices and organisational capability
  • Liaise with project and operational support teams, both internal and external
  • Provide proof of concept or prototyped solutions where applicable in a typically Microsoft Ecosystem (M365, Azure, Power Platform), and provide expert technical assistance to operational teams
  • Horizon scanning for new and emerging technologies and solutions
  • Keep up to date with current and future technologies, products and strategies
Experience Required
  • Understands the business, business drivers, and business strategy
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical and service architecture requirements
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
  • Strong understanding of technical infrastructure, with strong practical experience of public cloud services (specifically Microsoft Azure, M365)
  • Comfortable with design and deployment, leveraging latest cloud techniques / technologies (very much a hands-on role)
  • High level of energy and drive for results - able to prioritise and work with rigour to a high quality. Tenacious and consistently delivers what they say that they will do
  • Excellent relationship building, senior stakeholder management and the ability to work collaboratively to deliver the required outcomes
  • Experience of regulated environments
  • Ability to hold a minimum of UK Baseline Clearance (BPSS)
  • Remote / work from home primarily with occasional travel
