We have a fantastic opportunity for a Supply Chain Development Lead to join our team remote working from our head office in Oxfordshire.

The Supply Chain Development Lead is responsible for managing all aspects of strategic engagement between Nuclear Waste Services and its supply chain to ensure value for money and effective risk management through the creation and execution of excellent commercial strategy.

A key priority for this role will initially be delivering integration and improvement activities to support NWS becoming a single legal entity in 2024.  Taking account of the maturity and readiness to implement new ways of working and processes will be important, as will managing competing demands and expectations of the function and wider business. 

This role will be part of the management team for the Process, Standards, Systems & Reporting team who collectively will be responsible for leading the development and oversight of commercial standards and continuous improvement activities for NWS, ensuring that government standards and industry best practice are adopted to facilitate effective and consistent commercial delivery.

The postholder will need to work closely with a variety of key stakeholders and other process owners to ensure that Commercial’s processes and activities complement and/or align efficiently to meet the overall needs of the business.

The ideal candidate must have drive and ambition and be pro-active across the wider business.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design, build, shape, implement and manage supply chain strategy in line with company policies, standards, laws and regulations.
  • Develop the NWS Supply Chain strategy.
  • Co-ordinate an Overarching Acquisition Strategy to provide a long-term strategic overview on the procurement of goods and services from the supply chain.
  • Lead the commercial implementation of Government policy initiatives including Sustainability, Social Value, Carbon Net Zero and Modern Slavery.
  • Lead the strategic implementation of NWS sustainability strategy, and social value across the NWS supply chain.
  • Design and implement effective supply chain risk management processes to the NWS supply chain.
  • Assess the resilience of the NWS supply chain, co-ordinate, develop and implement action plan to manage identified risks.
  • Identify strategic suppliers and ensure contingency and business continuity plans are developed and managed accordingly as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the supply chain.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to add value across the supply chain.
  • Manage all aspects of supplier engagement and provide clear routes for communication and feedback on both client and supply chain performance.
  • Provide an in-depth knowledge of market analysis and application of effective procurement techniques to enable the business to make the right procurement decisions.
  • Analyse supply chain data and solving any issues or putting alternative plans in place.
  • Drive supply chain optimisation and process improvement.
  • Develop the skills and capability of Supply Chain best practices, business sector knowledge and analytics across the team.
  • Build and effectively manage partnerships within our supply chain network.
  • Increase quality awareness to achieve “Right the First Time” approach within all aspects of Supply Chains functions.
Experience Required
  • Background knowledge of working in a similar contract management role
  • Member of CIPS or equivalent professional body
  • 5 years commercial experience at a similar level
  • Experience within a regulated industry
  • Experience of managing a high-performing team
  • Working knowledge of PCR, PPN’s and commercial contracts
