Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Senior Environmental Monitoring Technician to join its busy team, flexible working from our Repository site in Cumbria.
NWS operates an Environmental Monitoring and a Site Characterisation Programme on the LLWR site. Additional monitoring and data interpretation/interpretive reporting is required due to increases in the scope of these programmes.
This is a key role within the Environmental Monitoring and Site Characterisation Team. The successful applicant is expected to organise and carry out environmental monitoring and site characterisation on the LLWR site. The position is therefore site based with blended working possible when site work is not required i.e. during data processing, interpretation and reporting. The position reports directly to the Environmental Monitoring Manager but is supported by two Environmental Advisors, another Senior Environmental Monitoring Technician and an Environmental Monitoring Technician.
- Take a lead role in undertaking field work in accordance with LLWR's environmental monitoring and site characterisation programmes, to meet regulatory requirements.
- To identify and implement potential improvements to the environmental monitoring programme to ensure that the programme remains appropriate.
- Take a lead role in the review of collected data and production of factual and interpretative reports in order to allow communication of environmental monitoring and site characterisation conditions.
- Take a lead role in the implementation of suitable environmental dust monitoring, interpretation of dust monitoring data and production of dust monitoring reports.
- Undertake compilation, entry and QA checking of data to be imported into the environmental monitoring and geotechnical databases.
- Provide advice and guidance on environmental monitoring, land quality and site characterisation in support of statutory requirements, safety cases, site operations and projects.
- Take an active role in improvement initiatives/projects, where required.
- Comply with legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security etc. applicable to the role.
Due to the large range of tasks that the role requires the successful applicant will need to be able to show a broad knowledge of environmental monitoring and site characterisation. The following skills/qualifications are considered to be essential in the role:
- Relevant degree in environmental subject (minimum 2:2).
- Relevant experience in carrying out environmental monitoring.
- Interest in geology / hydrogeology / hydrology.
- Good IT skills.
- Proactive behaviour.
- Ability to undertake tasks with minimal supervision.
- Full driving license.
